*GENERAL PURPOSE.* To lead development activities within the
Park and Recreation Department in effort to raise funding for
operations, program implementation and park improvements. The
position develops, implements, and monitors a comprehensive
fundraising plan to expand philanthropic support of the
organization - including identifying and strengthening
relationships with community stakeholders, actively pursuing, and
managing corporate and individual leads, fostering strong donor and
sponsor stewardship, and seeking, applying for and managing grant
funding. Additionally, this position provides support for all
functions of the Department, especially programs and events.
*ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF POSITION *include the following:
Along with the Park Superintendent, design and implement a
comprehensive development funding plan annually which improves the
fiscal health of the Department and provides future financial
resources for growth and expansion. Including but not limited to
grant writing and management, corporate/local business giving,
annual appeal development and management, and Department
Develop strong relationships within the community to foster a
positive image such that companies, civic organizations and
individuals will make the Department/Park Foundation the local
charity of choice for funding.
Act as primary point of contact for funding, donations, and
fundraising event inquiries.
Collect, organize, and maintain a complete and accurate database
record of donors and funding received. Creates funding targets for
Superintendent and Park Foundation. Establishes tracking tools and

management, production and oversight of fundraising activities and
events, including developing and managing timeline, budget, and
Oversee branding, image, and consistency of messaging in all
organization materials, including ensuring Department/Park
Foundation messaging is updated and accurate in all marketing and

Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers as needed to support

Work with the Communication Director to develop marketing content,
including social media, to promote fundraising, programs, and

Deliver presentations on programs to various community, corporate
and non-profit groups as needed.
Respond to email, telephone and walk-in inquiries as needed.
Assist with scheduling of volunteers and staff for events. Ability
to adjust schedule as needed, working nights/weekends and limited
holidays as scheduled or necessary. Perform other duties as
*SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES*. Supervises and directs staff and
volunteers as related to duties listed above.
*QUALIFICATIONS*. To perform this job successfully, an individual

experience in fundraising, park development, coordination and
planning are preferred and can be substituted for prior educational
LANGUAGE SKILLS. Ability to read and interpret documents such as
safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure
manuals. Must be able to effectively communicate with public,
donors, contacts and other departments within La Porte City
Government. Must be able to communicate and demonstrate effective
leadership and communication with other members of the team.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to
speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of
PHYSICAL DEMANDS. The physical demands described here are

Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel; principles
of customer service, ability to communicate effectively - verbally
and in writing; strong organizational skills; excellent personal,
verbal and written communication skills; able to manage multiple
projects while meeting deadlines; solid organizational, time
management and project management skills required; initiative and
collaborative skills indicated; foster and promote business
relationships and partnering within the community; comfortable
working with people from diverse backgrounds; establish rapport and
build on relationships to promote mission of the Department; and
good public speaking skills required.
