Job Description:
Schedule: Exempt, Full-time, 40 hours per week
Job Summary: Under the immediate supervision of the Quality
department leadership and other designated leadership, promotes
delivery of quality patient care, safety and reduction in medical
errors. Performs clinical analysis designed to identify patterns of
patient care events that may lead to sub-optimal outcomes and
identify areas where patient care needs improvement. Coordinates
and facilitates the activities to minimize losses associated with
identifiable risks and to minimize and prevent claims of general
and professional liability against the hospital- in doing so,
promotes patient safety.
The age of patients serviced by this facility range from neonatal
to geriatric. The Risk Manager will possess an understanding of age
dynamics, including multicultural and behavioral concepts. - The
Risk Manager does not provide direct patient care.
Responsible for implementing and maintaining an effective and
efficient performance improvement/risk management program.
Serves as the Patient Safety Officer.
Minimal Acceptable Qualifications:
Licensure/Certification: - -
Registered Nurse license to practice in Indiana preferred.
CPHRM preferred.
BCLS within 30 days of hire
Must complete NIMS modules ICS-100 and ICS-200, ICS-700 and ICS-800
within 30 days of hire
Experience: Five years' experience in a hospital setting with three
years' experience in a hospital-based quality assurance/risk
management. Acute care experience is essential and non-acute care
experience is preferred. Adept at interpersonal relations including
oral and written communication. Must be able to accept
responsibility, make independent decisions and interact with
professionals. Must be able to manage multiple tasks and projects
simultaneously.
Education: - - Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree
preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered.
Job Knowledge and Skills: - - - Demonstrates strong working
knowledge of research methodologies and organizational systems in a
healthcare environment, as well as basic behavioral science
principles in order to pursue informational needs and assure
thoroughness and validity for final analysis. - Requires strong
working knowledge of relative software systems for data
retrieval.
Requires strong analytical and organizational skills, as well as
working knowledge of statistics, data systems management, and
retrieval necessary to "break down" and present technical
information summaries to support various studies and monitors in a
highly confidential environment and lead/provide technical guidance
to staff in the performance of these functions. - - - - - - - - - -

Demonstrates a high level of interpersonal and communication
skills, verbal and written, necessary to interact effectively with
all internal and external unit customers, as needed.
Requires leadership, group cohesion and communication skills
necessary to lead assigned unit staff and work closely with
hospital professionals and medical staff, to track clinical
services, assess data and identify issues, maintain effective
reporting and monitoring systems, as well as to maintain quality
outcome objectives.
Requires in-depth knowledge of multidisciplinary planning.
Requires strong working knowledge of research methodologies
necessary to conduct studies, statistically analyze and summarize
data.
