JOB DESCRIPTION: -
The Head Cook is responsible for managing the kitchen to provide
quality food service for the duration of the camp experience. The
nature of this position requires the individual to provide indirect
service to girls. -The Head Cook is appointed for a one camp season
term that is renewable upon completion of evaluation process. -
-Our camp is located in northeast Indiana. Camp Ella J. Logan was
founded on Lake Dewart in Syracuse, Indiana in 1928. Camp serves
about 60 girls per week (and a barn full of horses), and days are
filled with trails and traditions that empower campers through
intentional activity design and cooperative leadership. Join us for
a summer of growth, memories, and a few silly songs.This is
seasonal summer employment (June 1 - August 3, 2023) which includes
room and board. Must be 18 years old by June
1st.RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan menus and order food. -
- Manage food budget and invoices to stay within budget.
- Ensure timely arrival of food supplies.
- Prepare and pack out food for units for cookouts. Oversee
menus.
- Prepare and serve meals with assistance from kitchen staff and
volunteer helpers.
- Supervise kitchen staff.
- Monitor and maintain freezer and refrigeration temperature
levels.
- Complete appropriate end-of-season reports and procedures.
- Maintain kitchen, food storage and dining area to meet American
Camp Association (ACA) standards and state health laws.
- Remain informed about and comply with the most current
policies, procedures, and guidelines of GSNI-M, Girl Scouts of the
USA (GSUSA), state camp laws, and ACA standards as applicable.
QUALIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES:
- GIRL Focus: Empower girls to lead activities, learn by doing,
and cooperate with others on current issues that involve their
interests and needs, while having fun.

credibility.
- Adaptability: Adjust, modify own behavior, and remain flexible

environments.
- Oral Communication: Expresses ideas and facts clearly,
concisely, and accurately.

- Computer Skills: Access to e-mail and the internet, plus
knowledge of social media (preferred) Additional Requirements: -
- Experience working in a kitchen and ability to plan menus and
cook for large numbers of people.
- Knowledge of principles of nutrition and menu planning.
- Ability to work with food service equipment and maintain a safe
and orderly kitchen.
- Knowledge of and experience in food service: ordering,
inventory, budgeting, food preparation, family-style and buffet
serving, cleaning and institutional kitchen equipment.
- Must hold current certification/licensure for operating a
kitchen in the camp's jurisdiction.
- Proof of certification of SERV Safe or Food Safe Certification
by the Health Department.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others and supervise kitchen
staff.
- Must become a registered member of GSUSA.
- Complete required coursework as assigned and provided by GSUSA
and GSNI-M: GSUSA online Orientation and Specific Camp
OrientationAll applicants for employment at GSNI-M are required to
be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to commencing
employment. Applicants who receive a conditional offer of
employment will be required to produce proof of vaccination status
prior to their first day of employment. -
