Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) AdministratorLocation: Chicago,
ILDuration: 10 yearsPosition OverviewThe CAD Administrator is
responsible for overseeing and managing the Computer-Aided Dispatch
(CAD) system to ensure its optimal functionality, security, and
efficiency. This role requires technical expertise in software
installation, configuration, troubleshooting, database management,
and end-user training. The CAD Administrator supports public safety
agencies by maintaining the CAD system, mobile data terminals,
records management systems, and ensuring data accuracy for
statistical and trend analysis.Key Responsibilities
- CAD System Management: Oversee the operation, maintenance, and
configuration of Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) software, manage CAD
and mobile application software settings, maintain CAD system
databases, and ensure data accuracy.
- Software Installation & Configuration: Install, configure,
implement, and update CAD and related applications for operational
efficiency.
- Database & Security Management: Manage, fine-tune, and ensure
the security of CAD databases and file management systems.
- Troubleshooting & Technical Support: Diagnose and resolve
system issues, provide administrative and front-line application
support, and respond to end-user inquiries.
- User Account Management: Create, modify, and delete end-user
accounts while ensuring compliance with security protocols.
- Equipment & Log Maintenance: Maintain records of CAD system
hardware, software licenses, and ensure up-to-date
documentation.
- Report Generation & Data Analysis: Prepare and submit routine
and special reports to management, analyzing system performance and
data trends.
- Integration & Collaboration: Work with IT teams, dispatch
personnel, emergency responders, and third-party vendors to enhance
CAD functionality.
- Policy and Procedure Development: Assist in the development and
maintenance of policies and procedures related to CAD.Required
Education, Skills, Qualifications & ExperienceEducation:
- A bachelor's degree is preferred, but a high school diploma or
equivalent with several years of relevant experience may be
acceptable.
- Certifications or degrees in Emergency Medical Science, Fire
Science, Criminal Justice, or a related field are highly
desirable.Required Technical Skills:
- Extensive experience with CAD/RMS (Records Management Systems)
in emergency response environments.
- Strong knowledge of mobile data terminals (MDT), emergency
dispatch, and public safety software.
- Hands-on experience with database management, system
configuration, and technical troubleshooting.
- Strong analytical skills for data query, transfer, and
statistical analysis.
- Familiarity with security protocols and user account management
within CAD systems.
- Strong working knowledge of HTML/XML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Proficiency in SQL, including views, stored procedures, and
database schema.
- Understanding of standard GPS protocols (TAIP and NMEA).
- Experience with Microsoft Windows Server and Desktop Operating
Systems (MCSA/MCSE skills).
- Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, ODBC, and Ops Manager
(SCOM).
- Experience with relational data modeling principles and
techniques.
- Ability to troubleshoot application system issues including
hardware, network and third-party components.Required Experience:
- Minimum of 5+ years of public safety applications experience
involving CAD/Mobile systems.
- Basic knowledge and experience with Mobile CAD
functionality.
- Trainer/Instructor experience (desirable).
- Basic knowledge and experience of GPS systems.
- Basic knowledge of CAD mapping and layers.
- Previous experience with Tri-Tech Software (highly
desirable).
- Completion of a Public Safety Dispatch Academy or Certified
Training Program (desirable).
- Experience with a Windows-based CAD system.
- Experience with or deploying enterprise hardware and software
solutions (highly desirable).
- Law Enforcement, Fire, or EMS experience (desirable).
- Member of the Association of Public-Safety Communication
Officials (APCO) (desirable).Work Environment & Schedule
- This position may require on-call availability, shift work, and
travel for system upgrades, maintenance, and training.
- Work is performed in an office, emergency dispatch center, and
