Job Description Job Description Salary: $70,000-$80,000, commensurate with experience Staff Attorney, Housing Law Practice North Suburban Legal Aid Clinic is seeking a full-time Staff Attorney to join its Housing Law Practice. The mission of the North Suburban Legal Aid Clinic (NSLAC) is to provide accessible, quality, equitable, free legal services in the areas of domestic violence, housing, and immigration to give low-income, at-risk community members access to justice and the opportunity to live productive and secure lives. NSLAC is a 10-year-old dynamic nonprofit with a collaborative culture and the goal of becoming the model legal aid organization focused on suburban communities. This position will report to the Director of the Housing Law Practice. Job Responsibilities: Manage a caseload representing low-income renters in housing cases including evictions, terminations from subsidized housing, conditions issues, and lease disputes; Cover cases at the Skokie, Rolling Meadows, and Waukegan courthouses; Conduct client intakes and provide advice and brief services; Assist with off-site legal clinics in the community; Conduct Know Your Rights presentations for the community on housing law; Supervise and train law and undergraduate interns; Collaborate with NSLACs Domestic Violence Law Practice and Immigration Law Practice teams ensuring a holistic approach to client matters; Perform other responsibilities needed to ensure NSLAC teams success. Qualifications: J.D. degree and Illinois law license required; Understanding of and commitment to NSLACs public interest law mission; A demonstrated team-player with exemplary interpersonal skills; Entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to succeed in a fast-paced nonprofit.
